Robyn's Post #3
A class blog can encourage collaboration by allowing everyone an opportunity to express their opinion without having the pressure of speaking/sharing in front of a large class/audience. It can be empowering to respond to other blog posts. The thoughts and ideas posted on blogs will likely spawn other ideas, as well. Blogs can especially encourage collaboration in an online learning community/class where face to face interaction is limited.

I am one of those people who shy from asking questions or sharing ideas in class, and in the weeks since we started the blog assignments in ETEC I found I am more comfortable responding to people's blogs than speaking in class. Having a class blog for an online class is a great idea, for it will be another way for online students to share ideas, ask questions or answer questions. However, a class blog for a regular face-to-face class is useful as well, especially for parents who want to know what is happening in their child(ren)'s classroom or for a child who is absent to know what he/she had missed. It can also be an alternative to parent newsletters where parents can actually respond to news. Nonetheless, paper newsletters should not be abandoned altogether as not everyone will have internet access.
Hi Robyn!
I think that not having the pressure of speaking in front of the whole class is the most appealing thing about a class blog. I am one of those people who have a hard time speaking up, especially if it's a class with people I don’t know. Or if the class topic is intimidating and I don't want to sound stupid. It is definitely easier to share your thoughts if it’s not face-to-face and I agree with you that it will likely lead to other ideas. There will probably be a more in-depth discussion if it’s on a class blog than if it were in person because people will be braver to share what they think and wouldn’t be as afraid to disagree with someone else.
Great thoughts about collaboration through a class blog! I will see you in class next Monday, have a good holiday!
